Snake Control Service:
Ethical & Effective Solutions by Zero Pest™
Snakes are an integral part of Bangladesh’s diverse ecosystem, with approximately 75 to 94 species found across the country. While all sea snakes in Bangladesh are venomous, the majority of surface-dwelling snakes are non-venomous. Out of the total species, only about 22 to 28 are truly venomous, with some being mildly venomous and the vast majority being non-poisonous.
Bangladeshi snakes primarily belong to four main families:
- Colubridae (অ-বিষধর ও স্বল্প বিষধর সাপ – Non-venomous & Mildly Venomous Snakes): This is the largest family of snakes, with many species being non-venomous or having mild venom not considered dangerous to humans. Examples include Rat Snakes (দাঁড়াশ সাপ) which are non-venomous predators of rodents, Keelbacks (জলঢোঁড়া সাপ) often found near water, Vine Snakes (লাউডগা সাপ) with mild rear-fanged venom not harmful to humans, Wolf Snakes (মেটে সাপ), and Trinket Snakes (ডান্ডি সাপ). Many colubrids play crucial ecological roles as predators.
- Elapidae (গোখরা ও কালাচ এবং অন্যান্য বিষধর সাপ – Cobras, Kraits, and Other Venomous Snakes): Characterized by short, fixed fangs and potent neurotoxic venom.
- Cobras (নাজা প্রজাতি): Several species, including the Indian Cobra (Naja naja – গোখরা), are recognized by their hood and possess neurotoxic venom. The Monocled Cobra (Naja kaouthia) may also be present.
- Kraits (কালাচ প্রজাতি): Highly venomous elapids like the Common Krait (Bungarus caeruleus – কালাচ), which is particularly dangerous and nocturnal. Its neurotoxic venom can be fatal even without significant local symptoms. The Banded Krait (Bungarus fasciatus) is also found.
- Sea Snakes (সমুদ্র সাপ): Found in coastal waters, these have potent venom for immobilizing fish but are generally not aggressive unless provoked.
- Viperidae (ভাইপার ও চন্দ্রবোড়া এবং অন্যান্য বিষধর সাপ – Vipers and Other Venomous Snakes): Known for their long, hinged fangs and typically hemotoxic and cytotoxic venom.
- Russell’s Viper (Daboia russelii): Known as চন্দ্রবোড়া, it is highly venomous and responsible for a significant number of snakebites in Bangladesh. Its body has a distinctive pattern of dark, ovoid spots. Its venom primarily causes blood clotting abnormalities and tissue damage.
- Pit Vipers: Including Green Pit Vipers (Trimeresurus albolabris complex) and Pope’s Pit Viper (Trimeresurus popeiorum), these have heat-sensing pits and hemotoxic venom.
- Pythonidae (অজগর – Pythons): Large, non-venomous constrictors that suffocate their prey. The Reticulated Python (Malayopython reticulatus – জাল অজগর) and the Indian Rock Python (Python molurus – ময়াল অজগর) are found in Bangladesh. They inhabit forests, wetlands, rocky areas, and grasslands, preying on mammals and birds.
While sea kraits are among the most venomous snakes in Bangladesh, among surface snakes, the Common Krait (কালাচ) is considered the most venomous. The Indian Cobra (গোখরা) is a commonly encountered venomous snake, while the non-venomous Rat Snake (ধোরা সাপ) is widely seen across the country.
Snake Control Services by Zero Pest™: Ethical & IPM-Driven
Most snake species in Bangladesh are endangered due to habitat loss and human persecution. The Wildlife Conservation Act of Bangladesh discourages killing snakes anywhere in the country. As a responsible pest control service provider, Zero Pest™ is committed to environmental conservation. We do not kill any snakes. Instead, our approach focuses on ethical and effective methods to drive them out or safely capture them for release into their natural habitats.
Our methods are rooted in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles, focusing on prevention and humane deterrence:
- Rodent & Lizard Control Activities: Snakes are primarily attracted to areas with abundant prey. By effectively controlling rodent and lizard populations – their main food sources – we reduce the incentive for snakes to enter your property. This is the most crucial preventive measure.
- Habitat Modification (Herbicides Spraying): We apply herbicides to remove dense vegetation, tall grasses, and overgrown areas around your property. These are common hiding and basking spots for snakes, and their removal makes the area less attractive.
- Repellent Application:
- Phenol Repellent Installation: Strategically placed tanks of phenol (mini or KG) create a deterrent barrier, as snakes are known to avoid the scent.
- Bleaching Powder Application: Spreading bleaching powder in specific areas can act as a repellent due to its strong odor, deterring snakes.
- Naphthalene Application: Naphthalene balls can be strategically placed in areas to deter snakes with their strong odor.
- Targeted Glue Traps: In specific, contained situations where a snake might be trapped indoors, we may install glue traps designed for safe capture. Once caught, the snake is carefully removed and released into a safe, natural environment far from human habitation.
Zero Pest’s skilled technicians are trained to identify different snake species, understand their behavior, and apply the most appropriate and humane control methods. We ensure that our snake control services are not only effective in protecting your premises but also align with conservation efforts, safeguarding these important reptiles in their natural environment.
